The Secret to Being Truly Happy as a Successful High-Achiever
In 2008, I was working in the commercial real estate industry when the we entered the Great Recession.
The mortgage industry, the banking industry, and the real estate industry pretty much collapsed overnight. It was a really tough time for many people, as Americans lost +/ $10 Trillion dollars in 2008 alone.
As 2008 unravelled, I watched some friends and colleagues thrive through that time. They didn't seem to let the downturn impact them as much. And conversely, I watched other friends and colleagues really struggle. Very sadly, I personally knew two people that committed suicide during that recession because they had financially lost everything.
There were some important life-lessons that were learned during that economic downturn as it relates to happiness, fulfillment, and what life is really about, and I know many people are experiencing some of those same life-lessons now, as COVID19 creates a similar uncertainty for our futures.
In today's episode, I have a conversation with a special friend of mine, John Davidson. John is a psychotherapist in the England, and the founder of Happiness Hacks, an international training program to help people increase their levels of happiness. Also, John is just an all around great guy!
John knows a lot about happiness when it comes to successful high-achiever's, and we cover some really important and transformative ideas in this show that couldn't be more timely.
We talk about:
- What are some unique challenges or obstacles to happiness and fulfillment for those that are high-achieving busy professionals?
- Is there a difference between happiness and fulfillment?
- There’s so much in the world that promises to make us happy. More money, new jobs, new relationships, material possessions, etc. Why don’t these things ever really make us any happier?
- What are the secrets that happy people know about happiness, that others may not know?
- How can someone listening cultivate more happiness in their lives?
